CARD TRICKS
The Arrows show the placement on the stripe fabric.
The arrow should be going in the same direction as the stripe.
Cut 2 of the A template and 2 of the B template for each card.
You will also need 4 of each template for the background.
In order for the stripe designs in the fabric to match up you will need to cut each piece of 'card' fabric the same. Cut 2 of the A template, placing the template in the exact same location. The 2 B templates are reverses of each other. They are actually 1/2 of the A template. To accurately place them on the fabric, lay down the A template as you did before, and then place the B template on the right side, or left side. (you will need one of each), remove the A template and trace around the B template.
Use a different motif in the fabric for each 'card'. Note that some will be identical, as there is not a lot of choices in the smaller striped sections.
Note also that the templates do NOT have a seam allowance. The line you draw will be your sewing line. Be sure to add seam allowance when you cut out your pieces. Also you will need to cut around each piece separately so you don't cut into the surrounding fabric.
For the template, click on the template picture below, which will take you to a page that you can save the picture to your hard drive and then print from the picture the actual size template.
Sew all four blocks together and add the borders.
If you are using a border stripe for the border I make sure the length is the width of the quilt plus twice the width of the stripe you are using for the border I plus 6" for good measure.
IE: if the stripe width is 6" wide add 12" + an extra 6" to the width of the quilt.
CAUTION: Center a motif on the stripe in the center of the quilt and measure outward in both directions.
I used the entire 1.25 yard, cut the stripes I wanted to use and then placed them on the quilt centering a motif. The quilt is square so mitering shouldn't be a problem, if you are careful to center the stripe.
Use the remaining smaller stripes in between the larger stripes as a binding.
